Today, we give Kit Yi pneumococcal vaccination at Koe Child Clinic. This clinic is indeed very famous. We reached the clinic at around 9.15am due traffic jam, as we had to travel around 1 hour to reach this destination. Normally, with smooth traffic, we only need around 35 minutes to reach.
When we reach, the clinic already open, and I quickly register Kit Yi by writing the children name into the registration book. Gosh, Kit Yi is the 12th patient.
After registration, we went for breakfast at a vegetarian restaurant, just in front of the clinic. I have fried noodle with fried mee hoon, and add some curry into it. The taste of this noodle combination is quite ok. My husband had vegeration curry. It taste a bit weird, but still acceptable.
After our breakfast, we went back to the clinic. We waited until 11.45am, only reaches our turn. The injection happen very fast. I was instructed by the Dr. Koe to hold Kit Yi breast feeding position, with her head on my left side. Dr. Koe injected the vaccine onto her right thigh. Immediately Kit Yi cried. But after being sooth by her father, she stop crying and started smiling.
This pneumococcal vaccine cost RM300. The next dose would be in another 2 months, as the following month, Kit Yi need to take second dose of Hepatitis B vaccination.
According to Dr. Koe, for pneumococcal vaccination, Kit Yi need to be given 3 doses and 1 booster, as she started the first dose at fourth month of age, with is still small. If first dose is given after 6 month of age, then only 3 doses is sufficient. Why we don;t wait until Kit Yi is 6 month of age, then only give her this vaccination? Dr. Koe said, then Kit Yi will be without any protection during this few months.
